Nelson Jesus
Nelson Jesus ( 1986 – ) is from Azambuja, Portugal. He has started his studies in local wind bands and
later, studied saxophone in several institutions such as Caldas da Rainha and Oporto Conservatories, Oporto and Lisbon Superior Schools of Music with Mário Marques, Hugo Gaito, Henk van Twillert, Fernando Ramos, Francisco Ferreira and José Massarrão.
Also worked with João Figueiredo, Francisco Ferreira, Quarteto de Saxofones do Porto, Hugo Gaito, Mário Marques, Fernando Ramos, Henk van Twillert, Philipe Davids, Perico Sambeat, António Belijar, Arno Bornkamp, Mário Marzi, Nicholas Prost, Claude Delangle Jean-Yves Fourmeau e James Houlik.
He has earned several awards and honors, such as the 3rd prize of the junior category at the 1st International
Sax Contest in Palmela, 2005, honorable mention in the Interpretation contest of Caldas da Rainha Mus & Caldas
2005 and 2006, 1st prize Oporto Conservatory Music Competition, 2007 edition, 1st prize of the 3rd Music Competition Anatólio Falé, City of Lagos.
Nelson was a founding member of Vento do Norte sax ensemble and Portuguese Symphonic Band and played as a soloist with Oporto National Orchestra. He has participated in conducting courses with Antonio Saiote, Jan Cober, Douglas Bostock, Eugene Corporon, Rafael Agulló Albors, Pascual Vilaplana and Jean-Sébastien Béreau. He has studied analysis and composition with Fernando C. Lapa and João-Heitor Rigaud at the Oporto
Conservatory.
Won the 1st Prize in Composition for Symphonic Band Ibermúsicas Oaxaca-2014. Currently he is a sax player in National Guard Symphonic Band and has private classes with the composer Fernando Altube from Argentina.
