Andy Scott is a highly creative and versatile musician, respected internationally for his saxophone playing, compositions, musical collaborations and projects.

Nearly 30 years as a professional musician, last year Andy toured Hong Kong, Macau and Australia, via the Gala Closing Concert of the World Saxophone Congress in Strasbourg on Bastille Day with his 13-piece saxophone group, SaxAssault.

Andy has toured the world, from recording a CD deep in the jungle in Mexico with Duo partner percussionist Dave Hassell, to eight tours of Japan as a member of the Apollo Saxophone Quartet, numerous European Festival dates with London Saxophonic and the cult figure Moondog, to performing at the major concert halls in the UK, including the Wigmore Hall & Royal Albert Hall.

A self-taught composer, Andy won a prestigious British Composer Award in 2006 with his double saxophone concerto Dark Rain, and was BASCA-nominated in 2012 & 2015. He writes to commission, composing new works for leading soloists and ensembles, with works recently being given world premieres at Carnegie Hall NYC & the Royal Albert Hall, London. Branford Marsalis gave the world premiere of his saxophone concerto with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Clark Rundell, in 2012, and in 2016 Andy will be writing commissioned concerti for US trumpet star Rex Richardson & British classical guitarist Craig Ogden.

Andy received a PRS Biennial Award to compose a 20-minute work entitled ‘A Child Like You’ for Foden’s Brass Band, harpist Lauren Scott, and singer Anna-Clare Monk, which was premiered last year at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, London, broadcast on BBC Radio 3, and given a second performance in Glasgow as part of the Commonwealth Games Celebrations. Since 2008 Andy has been the inaugural Composer in Residence with Foden’s Brass Band.

In 2000 Andy was appointed Tutor of Saxophone at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, and more recently Tutor of Composition, and is co-Artistic Director with Rob Buckland, of Britain’s largest annual saxophone event, the RNCM Saxophone Day (est.2001).

Andy formed the World Tenor Saxophone Consortium in 2005, and launched the online tenor sax repertoire resource (funded by the RNCM), the Tenor Saxophone Index, in 2012. Andy is an endorsee of Selmer Paris Saxophones and Vandoren Products, and is published exclusively by Astute Music.

Andy is a classically-trained saxophonist, who explores the possibilities of blending classical music with jazz, funk, latin and world music, all of which is reflected in both his playing and writing.
